Right, what actually happens to Freddie Miles in Netflix’s Ripley?

He was never Tom’s biggest fan

We’ve barely recovered from The Gentlemen and already Netflix has hit us with another drama: Ripley. Based on the same story as the ’90s film The Talented Mr. Ripley starring Jude Law, Matt Damon and Gwyneth Paltrow, the series follows Tom Ripley along the Amalfi Coast as he’s tasked with convincing a millionaire’s son, Dickie Greenleaf, to return to New York after a Summer of loafing about— murder ensues.

And one key character who never quite warms to Tom (Andrew Scott) is Dickie’s (Johnny Flynn) long-term friend Freddie Miles (Eliot Sumner). So, in case you’ve got lost in the plot of Steve Zaillian’s drama, here’s what happens to Freddie in the series fully explained. (Spoilers ahead, obv):

Ok so, what actually happens to Freddie Miles in Netflix’s Ripley?

So, Freddie massively distrusts Tom from the minute he meets him in Naples. Freddie keeps on questioning him about his past and whether they’ve met before and, when Tom shuts him down, the vibes just go from bad to worse. Then, Freddie doesn’t invite tom to his villa in Cortina d’Ampezzo for Christmas and they feud is confirmed.

When Freddie and Tom meet again after Dickie’s death, Tom freaks out because Freddie has tracked him down in Rome while he’s using Dickie’s identity. Freddie obviously questions him loads about what’s going on (where’s Dickie, why are you here? etc). Tom is cold again, but his landlady tells Freddie “Dickie’s upstairs” when he asked her of his whereabouts, which allows him to put two and two together about Tom stealing Dickie’s identity. When he runs back upstairs to confront Tom, he beats him to death with an ash tray. Yikes.

Ripley is available to watch on Netflix now. For more like this and all the latest Netflix drops and memes like The Holy Church of Netflix on Facebook.
