It’s the end of an era: Uniofmanchestermemes has rebranded

Even legends must graduate someday

All good things must come to an end, and iconic meme pages are no exception.

On Monday evening, the news that @uniofmanchestermemes will be rebranding shook the student and alumni communities of Manchester.

After nearly six wonderful years of providing quality UoM content, the mastermind behind the Instagram page is finally graduating for good, leaving her legacy (somewhat) behind her.

The page was born during lockdown, self-styled as “the original and best UoM meme page” (uniofmanchestermemes passim).

Known to some as Emily Bennett, uniofmanchestermemes’ secret identity was revealed during the Lead Manchester 2026 campaign, when she ran for Union Affairs Officer.

In a 2023 interview with The Manchester Tab, she explained that the page was initially started to entertain and provide a sense of community.

She announced the overhaul on an Instagram Story, explaining “I have two weeks left as a uom student, six years later.

“I did apply to do a PHD and make this a decade long endeavour but I was #rejected for funding. Might reapply, might not.

“I am still going to post, I will just no longer be shacked to making memes about whatever is going on at the University of Manchester (unless it’s funny).”

Half a decade later, we’re left wondering who will be filling the meme-shaped hole in the Manchester Student socials scene.

She confirmed the rebrand to @sailoribarelyknowher was permanent and final, no takebacksies.

Asked if she had any final words for the people, Emily told The Manchester Tab: “All good things must come to an end and I am too old to be making memes about being at university. But it’s been fun and I hope everyone has enjoyed, and maybe a new meme page will rise in my absence.

“I’ll still be in manchester and posting about whatevers going on, and I am still writing my dissertation so there may be a few uom memes left in me yet.”
