Sob, here’s why Sex Education is actually ending with season four
I need answers
If you started watching Sex Education season four from the moment it dropped on Netflix at 8AM, you’ll have finished the entire series by roughly 4PM. At which time, you’ll have enter a period of mourning set to be shared by the whole of the Twitter timeline in due course. Truly, this is an end of an era. We’re not crying, you are.
And, obviously, as this chasm opens up in the Moordale universe, everyone wants answers about why one of the best coming of age shows going is being so cruelly ripped away from us. And luckily, those closest to the series have shared some insight to help you process Sex Education coming to an end with season four:
Right so, why exactly is Sex Education ending after season four?
When Sex Educations creator Laurie Nunn announced the show was coming to an end in July, she gave some reasons for her decision: “Writing this feels bittersweet,” she said. “As we’ve decided the fourth season will also be the final instalment of our show. This was not an easy decision to make, but as the themes and stories of the new season crystallised, it became clear that this was the right time to graduate.”
“We are incredibly proud of Sex Education and feel indebted to our brilliant writers, cast and crew who put so much heart into making every episode,” she added. “They have worked tirelessly to bring you this final season, and we can’t wait to share it with you. Goodbyes are the worst, but let’s celebrate all the good times we’ve had.”

Laurie also told the Guardian that, although the show was ending, she wouldn’t be wrapping the plot lines up in neat bows. “I think if you start writing while thinking about how people are responding to the work, it can become very self-conscious,” she said. “I’m hopeful that there’s a bittersweetness to [the ending], and that there’s everything people want in there, even though it might not be wrapped up completely perfectly.”
And will there be any Sex Education spin offs shows at all?
So, good news is, there actually is a chance there could be some Sex Education spin offs. “There’s always potential for more,” Laurie told Netflix Tudum. “I’m definitely taking a break and thinking about other things. But Moordale is a really rich world, and writing about teenagers is always a lot of fun. So, I think that there’s always potential for more to be explored in that world,” she added.
Hopes and prayers.
