Cyclists beware: The Fuzz are after you

On-the-spot fines for pavement pedalling

cyclists fixed penalty notice police

Pedestrian-lover police have announced that they will be upping their efforts to curb cyclists mounting the pavement in Luff.

The new police operation will see an increase in hawk-eyed police officers on Ashby and Radmoor Road and in the town centre.

Rogue cyclists will now receive an on-the-spot fine if they are caught pedalling our pavements. The fine is a fixed penalty notice of £50.

Punishable offences include cyclists having no front and back lights.

The Epinal spoke to third year cycling enthusiast Ed, who told us: “I thought pavements are meant to be for pedestrians, why should people have to move out of the way. If you can’t cycle on the road, you shouldn’t be on the roads at all.”

Geography finalist and full-time pedestrian Ashley shares Ed’s thoughts:

“As someone who walks most places, it can be irritating. Though I’m aware they can’t always be on roads. I’ve nearly been knocked over a few times on the way back from lectures.”
