The Guardian’s league table rates Lancaster University 11th in UK and top in North West

Lancaster remains in the same spot for the third year running.


Lancaster University has been rated 11th out of 122 universities in the UK as well as top in the North West in The Guardian’s 2025 league tables, remaining in the same spot as last year.

16 subjects were rated where Lancaster placed in the top 10, with four of those subjects rated in the top five.

Lancaster University constantly remains highly ranked, placing in the top 15 within most university league tables.

Lancaster have been rated highly over the last decade and are known for their significant graduate outcomes and support of staff and students. They have been described by The Guardian as “a model of consistency.”

Lancaster also have a low drop-out rate and an extremely high standard of teaching. This is reflected in its high ranking in the QS World Rankings.

Vice-Chancellor Andy Schofield said: “We are delighted to have been recognised once again among the best in the UK, and to have remained the top university in the North West.”

“We are very proud that the Guardian chose to highlight the value of a Lancaster degree in their reporting.”
