Rower dies after facing difficulty in Lancaster River Lune

A man has died after rowing in the River Lune, Lancaster.

Shortly after 07:30 BST, members of the public alerted HM Coastguard and Lancashire Police after two men were facing difficulty whilst rowing in the river Lune earlier this month, Saturday 8th October.

Upon arrival at the scene near Halton Road, emergency teams successfully pulled both men from the water.

A spokesperson for Lancaster Police later confirmed that “one man was rescued but sadly a second male was pulled out of the water unresponsive.”

They continued: “The thoughts and condolences of all of us are with the man’s family at this heartbreaking time.”

The multi-agency emergency response included five fire engines, from Lancaster, Morecambe, Bolton-le-Sands, Carnforth and Kendal, as well as a boat and drone from Penwortham.

The death is not being treated as suspicious, and a report will be passed onto HM Coroner.
