Selena Gomez loses followers after the Golden Globes while Kylie Jenner gains thousands

Kylie Jenner has been crowned the winner of the Golden Globe 2024 battle over Selena Gomez. If you judge it by Instagram follower metrics, that is. See, Kylie saw a rise in her followers, while Selena witnessed a dip after all the drama at the start of the Hollywood awards season over the weekend. 

In case you missed it, the whole deal was prompted by Selena being spotted spilling some tea to Taylor Swift and Keleigh Teller. Naturally, Twitter did their thing, figured out what everyone was saying and pieced together a picture of the convo.

 They concluded it must have been that Selena was barred from taking a photo with Kylie’s boyfriend, Timothée Chalamet. Ever since, this has dominated certain parts of the internet, with some real-life impacts for the pair. 

Selena – who has more than 429 million followers – has seen a dip of 22,000 followers since Sunday night, while Kylie has added to her over 399 million followers by 36,000 in the same period, according to findings from NoDeposit.com.  

The whole sorry affair has prompted Selena to take another one of her breaks from the app – which, at this point, someone could run a live blog on – until she has another professional commitment she needs to post about. 

“Never trolling. I’m leaving Insta for a while until I have work again. I just stand up for what I believe in, I have no shame in doing that,” she noted. “I love my fans more than anything in the world,” Selena wrote in the comments section. 

Her break from the platform comes after she denied saying that she was complaining about Kylie not letting her take a picture with Timothée – who since has been seen getting asked about it by TMZ on the streets of New York – and that it was something else. 

Selena commented on Instagram: “Noooooo I told Taylor about two of my friends who hooked up. Not that that’s anyone business”

A rep told People magazine: “Selena never went up to Timothée and Kylie and asked for a photo.”

To be fair to Selena, she probably does have better things to do with her time, like hanging out with her new music producer boyfriend, Benny Blanco.
