Tinnies and balloons: Piles of rubbish left at Glastonbury as 2023 festival ends

Right now, thousands of people are trekking home from Glastonbury Festival 2023. They’re armed with enough Instagram pics to get them through the next year, nursing the worst comedown of their lives, and they can’t wait to have a shower that doesn’t involve wet wipes or poo in a toilet that actually flushes. But whilst they were having the weekend of their lives drinking warm tinnies at Glastonbury 2023 and posting a billion Insta stories, they were also creating an absolute fuck-tonne of rubbish.

It’s been reported that around 1,000 volunteer litter pickers have been going around Glastonbury’s festival site this morning, helping with the clean-up. Pictures show what look like discarded nos canisters littered on the ground, along with camping chairs, balloons, food packaging, plastic drinks bottles and plastic bags. Quite simply, just piles and piles of waste left behind.

Glastonbury has a whole page of its website dedicated to all its eco-friendly policies and rules about how to be more green. This year for the first time, it banned disposable vapes in a bid to become more environmentally friendly. The festival also asks people to not bring non-biodegradable body glitter, recycle litter properly, travel there by public transport, and bring a reusable water bottle which can be filled for free onsite.
