Netflix’s Filthy Rich tells the depraved story of Ghislaine Maxwell, but where is she now?
She was exposed for human trafficking in 2019
Ghislaine Maxwell was the girlfriend of sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, and helped him traffic underaged girls to high-profile, affluent celebrities around the world. She’s also the daughter of media tycoon Richard Maxwell, who died in mysterious circumstances. This is all explored in Netflix’s latest shocking true crime, Ghislaine Maxwell: Filthy Rich.
It seemed like Maxwell had it all – the money, the huge houses, the fame and the notoriety. People were shocked to find out she just how huge a part she played in the trafficking and abuse of teenage girls. She went into hiding back in 2020, after allegations of her illegal behaviour began to stack up. Up until her trial in 2021, she maintained her innocence.
But, while Epstein’s suicide meant he never made it to trial; Maxwell was supposedly monitored 24/7 to make sure she saw due process through until the end. But, where exactly is Ghislaine Maxwell now? And has she spoken out since the trial?
On 29th December 2021, Maxwell was found guilty on five counts of sex trafficking, including one charge involving a minor. She was eventually sentenced to 20 years in prison – meaning she’ll be into her eighties before she’s released.
In August 2022, her lawyers actually sued her for failing to pay hundreds-of-thousands of dollars in legal fees. The result of which is unknown as of writing this article.
Maxwell currently lives in a prison in Tallahassee, Florida, even though she’s partially a British citizen. A source close to her told The Times in June: “Given the vile prison conditions in the US, if I were her I would want to be transferred to any civilised country,” and another friend told the Daily Mail: “She wants to be in the UK to be closer to her family so she can have family visits.”
