Here’s how to do the looking behind the camera trend that everyone’s doing on TikTok

Mmmm delightful x

As we know, TikTok is the birth place of some pretty weird trends. The latest in the line is the slightly bizarre, “look at the camera and then something behind it” TikTok trend. Basically, it’s a bunch of people filming themselves whilst their eyes go really weird in separate directions.

It’s truly freaking everyone out because of how strange it makes you look, and people are baffed. As such, most of the videos end in a short clip with the person shocked and their mouth open. It’s hysterical.

Turns out it’s actually really hard to do though and requires special practice. As such, we’ve developed a step-by-step guide to help you get the weirdest looking googly eyes you possibly can:

1. Start up close to the screen and look directly into the camera

2. Hold the stare for a few seconds – at least until the end of the lyric “that fire…”

3. Slowly lift your eyes up over your phone and focus on something specific in the background. You can’t just blank stare into the distance otherwise it just won’t work.

4. Be shocked at what you look like and laugh until you cry

Honestly these are absolutely amazing, so here’s a round up of some of the best “look at the camera and then something behind it” TikTok videos we’ve seen.

This one claims a spot purely for the after-reaction. It’s golden.

Don’t think he could’ve possibly been any closer to the screen for this one but 10/10 for effort.

The change of facial expression is nothing short of dramatic genius.
