Actor Paul Ritter, who played dad Martin in Friday Night Dinner, has died of a brain tumour at the age of 54.

“It is with great sadness we can confirm that Paul Ritter passed away last night,” his agent said in a statement.

As well as his work in all six series of Friday night dinner, Ritter played a rogue government adviser in Quantum of Solace, and vampire Eldred Worple in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

He had also previously been nominated for both an Olivier award and a Tony award for his work on the stage.

“He died peacefully at home with his wife Polly and sons Frank and Noah by his side. He was 54 and had been suffering from a brain tumour,” his agent continued.

“Paul was an exceptionally talented actor playing an enormous variety of roles on stage and screen with extraordinary skill. He was fiercely intelligent, kind and very funny. We will miss him greatly.”
