Chris Watts ends prison relationship and calls off his jail wedding just weeks after it went public

Chris Watts is said to have called off his prison wedding and the relationship he was having while behind bars, just weeks after news of it was reported.

Around two months ago, it was reported that the killer was seeking a marriage license and was planning to marry a new woman from jail, and his new “wife” had already changed her last name.

In 2018, Chris Watts killed his pregnant wife Shanann Watts, and their two young daughters, four-year-old Bella and three-year-old Celeste. He is jailed at a maximum-security prison in Wisconsin, and there is no way that he will ever leave jail, as he has been sentenced without any chance of parole.

He was reported to have struck up a relationship in prison with a woman called Lizzie, who is a real estate agent. She relocated to Wisconsin, in order to be closer to Watts.

Prior to the abrupt breakup, Lizzie had already started calling herself Lizzie Watts, and applied to marry him within the prison system. Photos showed her wearing a wedding ring, and prison records show she visited Watts 20 times in 2025, and also spent Christmas Day with him in 2024.

The couple are said to have “got physical” in visits, with one witness describing a “steamy makeout session” one time Lizzie was at the jail. This is said to have happened just one day after the anniversary of the killings.

Now, The Daily Mail is reporting Watts has dumped Lizzie, because “God told him to”. A family source confirmed Watts’ mother Cindy was particularly concerned about the marriage, too.

“She never warmed up to Lizzie,” the family source said. “But no one was on board with him having a relationship with her. And Chris listens to his family. Chris would never marry someone who his mother didn’t approve of. Not even in jail.”

According to the publication, Watts went on to tell Lizzie that he no longer had “peace” in their relationship, and he believed God was sending a sign they shouldn’t be together.

In letters written from his prison cell, Watts previously claimed he’s “changed” and had found God, who had forgiven him.

“I have always taken full responsibility for what I did, even though I was misled by a wicked woman,” he wrote, blaming his mistress, Nichol Kessinger, for him murdering his entire family. “I know that God does not see me as a sinner who killed his family; he sees me as his child. I have confessed my sins. I am forgiven. The hardest thing I have had to do was to forgive myself.”

He added: “God has separated me from my sin as far as the east is from the west. But forgiveness of self is another matter entirely and it has taken me years to find my peace, the peace that passes all understanding. I am finally at peace with myself.”
