Chris Watts claims he’s a ‘changed man’ and ‘forgiven by God’ in new letters to female pen pal

In 2018, he killed his pregnant wife and two young children

New prison letters from murderer Chris Watts have been revealed, and in them he has claimed he’s “changed” and has since been forgiven by God.

In 2018, pregnant Shanann Watts and her two young daughters, four-year-old Bella and three-year-old Celeste, went missing from their home. A friend informed police and they were all reported missing. In the day following Chris Watts appeared to be the loving father who just wanted to know what had happened to his family.

But, he had killed his pregnant wife, and both of their children. He had been having an affair, and whilst this hasn’t been confirmed, it’s been theorised his motivation was a want to start a new life. Watts is now serving five life sentences in prison.

The chilling story was told in American Murder: The Family Next Door, which first aired on Netflix in 2020. After the show, it was revealed Chris receives dozens of twisted letters a week in prison, from female pen pals. And now years on, it’s been confirmed this is still the case.

In new letters obtained by The Daily Mail, Chris Watts has claimed he’s “changed” and that God has since forgiven him for his crimes. He has been sending the handwritten notes to a female pen pal, whilst serving at Dodge Correctional Institution in Wisconsin.

“I have always taken full responsibility for what I did, even though I was misled by a wicked woman,” he wrote, blaming his mistress, Nichol Kessinger, for him murdering his entire family. “I know that God does not see me as a sinner who killed his family; he sees me as his child. I have confessed my sins. I am forgiven. The hardest thing I have had to do was to forgive myself.”

In the letters, he added he is “a new man,” and continued: “I am not the person who committed those horrible acts. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says ‘if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: Old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.’ That’s me. I’m a new creature.

“God has separated me from my sin as far as the east is from the west. But forgiveness of self is another matter entirely and it has taken me years to find my peace, the peace that passes all understanding. I am finally at peace with myself.”

He later further blamed Nichol Kessinger for what happened. “She was a harlot, a Jezebel who led me astray,” Watts wrote. “Who spoke sweet words of destruction. But I will let God have his justice with her. I was weak and I let her cloud my morals and my judgement.”

Nichol Kessinger has never faced any criminal charges for the murders.
