Shannon left the Bake Off tent due to ‘something that really frightened her medically’

During cake week on The Great British Bake Off 2026, Shannon suddenly left the tent. Viewers saw a paramedic lead her away during the final hour of the showstopper challenge, but didn’t see much more context. Since this episode aired, Shannon has explained why she suddenly walked out of the Bake Off tent.
On her Instagram, Shannon wrote: “On the morning of filming, I experienced something that really frightened me medically. It was unexpected and scary, and I was incredibly upset and emotional about it. As soon as I arrived at the tent, I went straight to the medic, who checked me over and kept a close eye on me throughout the morning.
“After discussions with the medical team, it was decided that the best thing for me to do was go home and see my GP to have everything properly checked.”

Stepping away from the showstopper challenge “was absolutely heartbreaking”, but Shannon had to prioritise her health. “What I was experiencing could have been something serious,” she explained, “and I needed the reassurance that I was okay before returning”.
Thankfully, healthcare professionals found “everything was okay”.
Shannon wrote: “Looking back now, I’m incredibly grateful that I listened to medical advice rather than trying to push through.”

Shannon did attempt to recreate her portrait cake from the showstopper challenge at home. Her “The Many Layers of Shazza” portrait cake consisted of layers of lemon sponge and lemon curd. Unfortunately, this cake didn’t quite got to plan either. The icing on one side collapsed.
