ASOS just dropped its advent calendar, but is it worth the money? A serious investigation
It’s only September!
The days are getting shorter and the weather is getting colder, so that can only mean one thing: Advent calendars are right around the corner.
We all know that choc calendars are so 2010’s, but with so many beauty calendars on the market it can be overwhelming to weigh up the best value for money. Coming in at £98, the recently announced ASOS calendar seems like it’s on the lower end of the price range for this years selection. But is it any good?
The ASOS advent calendar boasts a 76 per cent saving on the 26 products inside, which seems like a pretty good deal. Allegedly, the goodies are worth £406. People go mad for these boujie advent calendars, but every year they come under fire for not living up to standards. Let’s take a look at the highs and lows of this years offerings.
1. Charlotte Tilbury Beauty Light Wand

via ASOS
Starting off pretty strong, this highlighter is worth £30. It’s hailed as an effortlessly dewy product that feels as great as it looks. Reviews compliment how long it lasts, and cement it as an on the go staple.
2. Sol De Janeiro Bum Bum Cream

via ASOS
Style over substance wins again. The divisive vanilla scent is overpowering for the girls against sweet scents, and although it got some serious hype on TikTok – it’s just another body butter. Whilst the 75ml pot is worth £21, the ASOS listing says the calendar only contains a 25ml pot. Barely enough to cover your shins.
3. This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray

Uh oh, we’ve got a serious cop out product on our hands here. Sorry to the sleep routine girls, but no one is looking for a pillow spray in their beauty calendar. Granted, it’s an expensive one at £25 for 75ml, but I’m not being fooled out of money for a sample size of something I can use once.
4. Inkey List Niacinamide Serum

via ASOS
It can’t just be me that thinks an advent calendar shouldn’t include serums that aren’t going to suit everyone? This might be a full size product, worth £10, but it’s definitely not going to slot nicely into everyone’s skincare routines.
5. Wella Professionals Ultimate Repair Miracle Hair Rescue Spray

via ASOS
Now this I can get behind. Worth £28.90, this tiny little bottle is concentrated salon magic. Not only can you detangle and smooth, but it repairs damage quicker than ASOS next day delivery.
6. Revolution Beauty Skin Silk Marble Blush Stick

via ASOS
And you’ve lost me again. This comes in the rose pink “Sundown Spice” shade and is worth £6.99. It’s cream to powder formula hasn’t been exactly dragged in the reviews, but in this house we don’t support choices that don’t go with everyone’s skin tone. Tbh, I can’t get behind that shade of pink and it would defo ruin my day on a random Tuesday.
The overview?
The ASOS advent calendar might save you a bit of money on trying some of the higher end products, but the ratio is skewed and you’ll likely end up with a lipstick you’ll never wear. If you’re set on getting a calendar that wows you with every product, it’s worth spending a bit more.
