US uni expels student after video reenacting Charlie Kirk’s murder at campus memorial goes viral
The uni president has now released a statement
A US uni student has been expelled after being caught on video reenacting the murder of far-right influencer Charlie Kirk during a memorial on campus.
The video taken on Monday, September 15, shows a student at Texas State University mocking Charlie Kirk’s death twice, first while pretending to be shot, and then again in front of a statue where Turning Point USA members were gathered.
According to Fox News, the student, wearing a backpack, cursed at attendees before pretending to be Charlie Kirk at the university’s San Marcos campus. He then fell to the ground as if he had been shot while saying, “Hi, my name is Charlie Kirk,” in front of a statue, further mocking the memorial.
This was at Texas State @txst a Charlie Kirk memorial event hosted by local TPUSA chapter. Student imitates Charlie Kirk’s death and mocks him, goes up to statue where TPUSA members are and imitates his death again, and spits near them. Also uses a vape/weed pen near end of video… pic.twitter.com/mVOHeh1jpk

Texas Governor Greg Abbott called for immediate action on Twitter. “Hey Texas State. This conduct is not accepted at our schools,” he wrote. “Expel this student immediately. Mocking assassination must have consequences.”

Update: Late this afternoon, we confirmed that the individual in the reprehensible video was a TXST student.
While federal law prevents @txst from commenting on individual student conduct matters, I can say that the person is no longer a student at Texas State. pic.twitter.com/12VhFFGavx

Texas State University President Kelly Damphousse later confirmed the student had been identified and expelled. “I will not tolerate behaviour that mocks, trivialises, or promotes violence on our campuses,” Damphousse said in a statement. “It is antithetical to our TXST values. The individual is no longer a student at TXST.”
Damphousse added that federal law prevents the university from commenting further on individual student conduct matters.
This incident follows other cases across the US where universities have taken action over social media posts about Charlie Kirk. At Texas Tech University, an 18-year-old student, Camryn Giselle Booker, was arrested and expelled for making disturbing comments at a Kirk vigil, allegedly shouting, “F*** y’all homie dead, he got shot in the head.” Booker was charged with misdemeanor assault.
