Drew Afualo doubles down on why trans women have a ‘more beautiful’ understanding of womanhood
‘Unfollow me then, b*tch’
The internet is enraged (again), and this time it’s about Drew Afualo, ER Fightmaster, and why trans women have a “more beautiful” understanding of womanhood.
The moment, which was filmed a full YEAR ago, was stitched and spread by various right-wing social media accounts. In it, Drew touched on transgender women with Fightmaster, who identifies as a non-binary lesbian.
In the chat, the Grey’s Anatomy actor said: “I want Cis women to stop letting men be a barrier to their identity. I think that trans women have a more beautiful understanding of what womanhood is.”
Drew agreed with their statement at the time, so of course the whole interview has been selectively clipped and edited without context by very specific accounts. But, as queer feminist TikToker Andra pointed out in her reaction video, the comments are being misunderstood, sometimes deliberately.
Drew and ER were not saying that trans women are superior to Cis women in any way, but that very often SOME Cis women define womanhood with the “patriarchal propaganda” perpetuated by men. Things like giving birth, having a period, or being a wife.
“Things that are teaching us that we should be accessories,” Andra said. “They never said that trans women have a better understanding of womanhood than Cis women. They just said that they think it’s more beautiful.”
It was a bit of a nothing moment in all honesty, and though positive comments are supporting the moment, right-wing accounts have whipped Cis women into a frenzy.
One person, who misunderstood the comments, said: “Drew Afualo saying trans women know femininity better than cis women is soooo insane to me.”
Someone who actually watched the video said: “Genuinely confusing to watch the Drew Afualo video everyone is so outraged by just to find a lovely lament on how womanhood isn’t inherently tied to our physical bodies and is actually about our souls and minds.”
Drew Afualo has addressed the backlash to her trans comments
In a lengthy TikTok posted on Monday, Drew Afualo doubled down on her comments by suggesting that “maybe you should go watch it before you pretend to get mad.”
@drewafualo lemme know if they listen to this bc I’m tired & busy
“Reducing womanhood down to your uterus and what it does is quite literally a pillar of misogyny; that is quite literally a tenet of patriarchy. Reducing women down to being able to have periods and create babies is a huge misogynistic talking point. Weaponising it to discredit and invalidate trans women also makes you a transphobe. Believing in feminism unless trans women are included makes you a turf,” she said.
Misinformed people wrongly claimed that Drew was discussing womanhood with a man, but ER Fightmaster was assigned female at birth. They can speak to periods, because they’ve had them.
drew afualo introducing terf rhetoric to the mainstream is like turning on the lights and watching roaches scatter idk like maybe u are a terf if u think trans women don't understand womanhood because they don't "have periods" or "give birth" like okay get on the train

“It’s f*cking embarrassing, and it’s annoying. My stance on supporting trans people has been consistent through the f*cking years. If you followed me for real, you should f*cking know that my feminism is intersectional, unlike a lot of women who claim to be feminist when they make videos like that,” she added.
“This entire conversation is stupid, bigoted, and transphobic. If you don’t like that I support trans women with my whole f*cking chest, unfollow me then, b*tch. It’s imperative CIS women support trans women. For f*cking real. Because I know I do. Thanks y’all, bye.”
The co-star of Drew’s controversial comments has yet to speak out.
