Costco employee accused of killing coworker in jealous rage after seeing him hug woman

A 22-year-old Costco employee has been accused of killing a coworker with his car in an act of jealousy over another woman who works at the same store.

Tyler Sorensen allegedly swerved lanes and crashed his car into 20-year-old Jonathon Langdon’s motorbike near their workplace in Issaquah, Washington, on the evening of 31st July. Surveillance footage shows Langdon was thrown off the motorcycle and collided with a street sign. Paramedics tried to save his life, but he sadly died at the scene from his injuries.

Police responded to the crash in the 800 block of Lake Drive just before 9pm and arrested Sorenson in what the Issaquah Police Department believe “was a suspected intentional act”.

“The driver left the scene without stopping or rendering aid. Approximately one hour later, the suspect returned to the scene with a family member and agreed to speak with investigators. During interviews with investigators, the suspect made statements acknowledging that he struck the victim’s motorcycle while acting out of anger,” the Issaquah Police Department said.

Sorensen allegedly followed Langdon from the Costco parking lot where they worked after seeing him hug one of their female coworkers, Samantha Peterson, who Sorensen was infatuated with, prosecutors said. He claimed they were in a relationship, but Peterson told detectives they were “just friends”.

According to court documents obtained by KOMO News, the 22-year-old told police: “It was stupid but I, I was, I meant to do it.” He also said he “didn’t mean to hit” Langdon and just wanted to “spook him”. Sorensen reportedly added: “While we were together, she always insisted he [Langdon] was just a friend. So I got pretty, I don’t know, panicked, riled up, just adrenaline.”

In an alleged text message on Sorensen’s phone from shortly after the incident, he said “Always told me he was just a friend,” referring to the relationship between his two co-workers. Another one said “My blood is boiling,” while a third added: “I fu**ed up bad.”

Sorenson has been charged with second-degree murder and pleaded not guilty. He is being held at the King County Jail in Seattle, and his bail has been set at $2 million.
