‘The Sims 4 is on life support’: Why players are convinced the game is close to death

‘I cannot in good conscience recommend you ever touch this’

The Sims 4 has been a game that we’ve all pumped hundreds of pounds into, and yet never felt satisfied. It’s a game that doesn’t quite scratch the itch, but merely rubs it a little bit until you realise it isn’t hitting like it needs to. Sure, you can have fun on The Sims 4. Albeit, briefly. It never feels complete – and I think part of that is what permanently dooms the game into being unsatisfying. Instead of moving things swiftly on with The Sims 5, EA have decided to curse us with endless pricey content. It seems the announcement of the latest expansion pack is the last straw. Despite it looking quite fun for The Sims 4 standards, players are furious about how the game itself is feeling broken and nothing is being done to fix it. Here’s why everyone is furious that The Sims 4 truly feels “on life support” – and its death looms.

The ‘new feature’ The Sims has launched is not a feature at all

The Sims 4 has announced it is releasing an option to turn off which packs you want to play with in the game. So if you’re sick of vampires turning up at your house, you can just untick that pack from your gameplay when you’re playing and it won’t be in use. The Sims 4 has tried to make out like this is a good thing – but it’s actually diabolical.

This cursed game…

Why on earth, first of all, should we feel the need to turn off features that we’ve paid in some instances 40 quid for? The Sims 4 is doing this because the game is struggling to run smoothly under the weight of everything – and worse still, loads of packs still have the chance of breaking the game and glitching.

Expansion packs like For Rent are notorious for their game breaking bugs, as well as packs like Dine Out and My Wedding Stories. These are yet to be fixed and yet The Sims 4 continues to release new content on top of the mess. People have had enough.

Worse still, this feature is ALSO bugged

Even The Sims 4 content creators like lilsimsie – an icon who does call out The Sims but mostly does everything with an aura of positivity – warned her audience to not even touch the pack options. In her own words, “I cannot in good conscience recommend you ever touch this.” She posted in a video that she got a pop up saying “Game ownership deleted or disabled.” Like. Come on.

Whilst we should all be getting all giddy for another The Sims 4 expansion, it truly does feel like the “life support” state of the game just makes it feel like we’re chugging along further into despair.
