A full timeline of everything that happened after catfish mum Kendra Licari was arrested
She is now on Parole
Netflix’s new true-crime documentary, Unknown Number: The High School Catfish, has left loads of people shocked with the story of Kendra Licari, the mum who catfished her own daughter, Lauryn, for nearly two years.
In October 2020, Lauryn and her then-boyfriend, Owen, began receiving around 40–50 threatening messages a day. Some of the messages were way too explicit for 13-year-olds, and many included personal details that made it impossible to tell who was behind them. At first, investigators thought friends might be sending the texts, but after tracing the IP addresses, the FBI revealed it was actually Kendra sending the messages. She was arrested shortly after.
So, here’s the full timeline of everything that happened after catfish mum Kendra Licari’s arrest.
December 2022: Arrest
Kendra was arrested for sending anonymous, threatening messages to Lauryn and Owen. She was originally charged with five offences including, two counts of stalking a minor, one count of obstruction of justice, and two counts of using a computer to commit a crime.
She was released on a $5,000 bond, according to ABC News. News of her confession quickly spread through Beal City, leaving Owen, Khloe, and other students in shock. Some broke down in relief, while others felt confused and betrayed.
March 2023: Plea deal and dropped charges
In March 2023, Kendra pled guilty to two counts of stalking a minor, as reported by The Morning Sun. The remaining three charges were dropped.
Her defence team also highlighted that Kendra had been voluntarily seeking mental health counselling since August 2022. She was also attending parenting classes, and showing genuine remorse.

April 2023: Sentencing
Kendra was sentenced to 19 months to five years in prison for the stalking counts. During the hearing, she read a typed statement, sobbing, “I am sorry for my behaviour to Owen McKenny and his family. I am sorry for my behaviour to Khloe Wilson and her family. I am sorry to my daughter, Ashley, and my husband, Shawn, I was unaware that I was in crisis for many years.”
Judge Mark Duthie called it “a truly horrible case” and said Kendra’s actions were part of a well-thought-out scheme. He highlighted that Kendra pleading guilty spared the victims from reliving their trauma, but it did not excuse her behaviour.
While in prison, Kendra was allowed to speak with Lauryn on scheduled calls. She reflected on her actions and acknowledged her mental health struggles, including depression, anxiety, suppressed childhood trauma, and even sexual abuse.
August 2024- May 2025: Release and parole
Kendra was released after serving just over a year. She now lives in Michigan under 20 very strict parole conditions. Her parole supervision lasts until February 2026. Meanwhile, her ex-husband, Shawn, has full custody of Lauryn following their divorce.
Lauryn finished her junior year at Beal City High, and graduated alongside Owen, Khloe, and the rest of their classmates. According to The Cut, Khloe signed a college volleyball deal, while Owen became senior homecoming king and made a key touchdown in the state football final.
