‘We all fell in love with Cardiff’: Triplets graduate from Cardiff University together
‘We were all studying different subjects – we were sure we wouldn’t bump into each other all of the time’
A set of triplets have all graduated from Cardiff University together after “falling in love” with the city on their open day.
Triplets Grace, Maudie and Rose Orgill, from Fairford, have never been apart for more than two weeks. The trio “live together, play netball together and did our degrees together”.
Rose has earned a BSc in chemistry, Maudie a BA in history, and Grace a BSc in biomedical sciences.
Rose, the eldest of the triplets, told BBC News: “Ideally, we wanted to split up, but we all fell in love with Cardiff on the offer-holder day, when the sun was out, something we later realised is pretty rare.
“We agreed Cardiff was big and, because we were all studying different subjects, we were sure we wouldn’t bump into each other all of the time.”
But things didn’t exactly go to plan when all three girls were assigned the same six-person flat in Talybont North.
Rose explained in a BBC News TikTok video: “Probably a bit of a shock for our other three housemates when we moved into Talybont North in first year.”
Grace continued: “Yeah, I actually moved in first and we had three other housemates move in and they were like, ‘Ooh I wonder what our other two housemates are gonna be like’ and I was like… uh, oh, well one of them looks very much like me!”
Maurie added when she’d introduce herself on the third day, the other people in the house thought they’d already met her.
During their graduation, the sisters adorned their gowns with ribbons and forget-me-not flowers in honour of their grandfather, who passed away suddenly on the day of Rose’s final chemistry exam.

The girls are now planning on travelling together, starting with a trip to South East Asia, after earning some money over summer.
Looking to the future, Grace is considering joining the RAF while Rose is looking to move abroad for work. Maudie could potentially be returning to Cardiff, this time on her own.
“I’m hoping to go into law and potentially do a conversion course at Cardiff,” she told BBC News.
Phil Orgill, the father of the girls, said: “We’re excited to see what the future has in store for them, and if they’ll all end up working in the same city too.
“But first we’re looking forward to hearing all about their adventures when they head off travelling at the end of the year.”
