University of Birmingham graduates to debut their new show at Edinburgh Fringe
The show focuses on female solidarity, and is in partnership with Ask for Angela
Two University of Birmingham graduates will be debuting their new show at Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
The show, FLUSH, offers an unexpectedly intimate portrait of female solidarity, set within the unlikeliest of places: A nightclub bathroom.
According to Birmingham World, over the course of a single night, the play unfolds with briskness and dark humour, whilst tracking a young woman, Billie, as she navigates the aftermath of an experience she cannot quite name. In this small, shared space, strangers offer support and wisdom — a reminder that even in silence, there is storytelling, and even in survival, there can be kinship.
Created by University of Birmingham graduates April Hope Miller and Joanna Strafford, the production reflects a careful blend of academic discipline and raw emotionality. Written and performed by Miller, with Strafford as co-producer, FLUSH emerges as a testament to what can happen when courage and craft intersect.
Shortlisted for the Charlie Hartill Award and partnered with the safeguarding initiative Ask for Angela, this debut marks a quiet but resolute step forward for its all-female team.
It will be staged at Pleasance Courtyard (upstairs), from 30th July to 25th August 2025.
