Revealed: Police investigation into MAFS Paul scandal dropped as show makes these key changes
After five months, the show has promised a ‘fresh take’ in the wake of the investigation
During MAFS Australia 2025, police were forced to step in and start an investigation into the show after groom Paul punched a wall in the apartment he shared with on-screen bride, Carina. Five months on, it’s been revealed this investigation has been quietly dropped.
The news the investigation has concluded hasn’t come with no action, though. Despite police saying they will take no further action, the show has promised a “fresh take” and some major changes.
At the time the show was airing, NSW Police confirmed the incident had been referred to officers from South Sydney Police Area Command. It came after Paul punched a wall in his home with Carina, after finding out she’d slept with a rapper in the past.
“The matter has been referred to officers from South Sydney Police Area Command, who have commenced an investigation,” a NSW Police spokesman told NewsWire. “As the investigation is current, police will not be making any further comment in relation to the matter.”
Sky News then reported that Channel Nine was involved. “The New South Wales Police Department escalated the request for a proper investigation and have approached Channel Nine to cooperate,” it was said. A watchdog was also investigating.

Those investigations are now over. A NSW Police spokesperson told SkyNews.com.au “following an investigation conducted by officers attached to South Sydney Police Area Command, no further police action is expected.” The publication said Channel Nine is now looking at a “fresh take” for the show, and has “launched a full-scale reset” for the 2026 season.

According to the report, the network has since implemented stricter background checks, more in-depth psychological screening, and tough new guidelines aimed at avoiding another police scandal.
“Safe Work was also heavily involved in reviewing the show’s future, and Channel Nine has taken their recommendations very seriously,” an insider said. “They want compelling TV but not at the expense of cast wellbeing or legal risk.”
