Five crucial Squid Game details you need to remember before binge-watching season three

The journey to season three has been chaotic

The worldwide sensation that is Squid Game is sadly coming to an end, but before you dive headfirst into the chaos of season three, it’s proboably best to recap some of the details you might have forgotten from season two.

“In the season, Seong Gi-hun and the players fight for survival in ever-deadlier games, which have dire consequences. In-ho welcomes the VIPs while his brother Jun-ho continues the search for the island, unaware of a traitor in their midst,” a description for the season explains.

Some, but not all, of the season two cast are returning for more deadly fun, so here’s a recap of the biggest Squid Game season two details you have probs forgotten.

Who is alive for Squid Game season three?

Season two was as brutal as the first, with literally hundreds of people being killed throughout the deadly games. By the end of season two, which saw Gi-hun start a rebellion, only a handful of players were left alive. They were:

  • Gi-hun
  • The Front Man
  • Yong-sik (Player 007)
  • Geum-ja (Player 149)
  • Jun-hee (Player 222)
  • Myung-gi (Player 333)
  • and Seon-nyeo (Player 044)
  • Dae-ho (Player 388)
  • Hyun-ju (Player 120)

The Front Man betrayed Gi-Hun

Much of season two saw Gi-hun’s desperate attempt to save the lives of his fellow contestants, so naturally, the Front Man had to get in on the action by posing as Player 001. They struck up the platonic love story of the century, but in the final episode, the Front Man betrays his friend while revealing his insidious role as head of the games.

We already know that much of season three will see the fallout of the failed rebellion, all while Gi-hun is trying to get his revenge on his former bestie.

At the start of both seasons one and two, Gong Yoo’s recruiter character served as the bridge between the real world and Squid Game. Unfortunately, his pretty yet deranged face met a brutal ending during a game of Russian roulette with Gi-hun, so we won’t be seeing him again.

Jun-ho is STILL searching for the games

Don’t get me started on how underutilised Jun-ho was in season two, after all, he was partly why season one was so successful. He spent much of the season trying to find Squid Game following a run-in with his brother, The Front Man, only to be betrayed by a friend who was helping to cover up the conspiracy.

Jun-ho will allegedly have a bigger role in season three, and it’s about damn time!

Player 246 *might* be alive

We first met Player 246 at the start of the season, viewing him as a father figure through the eyes of his very sick daughter. It’s the reason he signed up for Squid Game, but following the rebellion, he appeared to be shot and sent falling over the edge.

People were confused by his killing because Player 246 was set up to be a pretty major character – but here’s where things get interesting. We know he had a somewhat close relationship with guard 011, so people have suggested that she was the one to shoot him in that final scene, adjusting her gun to ensure it wasn’t fatal.
