All the players who died in Squid Game season two – and who is still alive for season three
By the end of the final episode only a small handful remained
With the conclusion of season two of Netflix’s Squid Game, we’ve once again waved goodbye to a boatload of players who discovered the grisly consequences of failing a challenge.
After being dragged through the trauma of losing beloved characters in season one of the hit Netflix show, with Seong Gi-hun being the sole survivor, I thought I was more than prepared for season two. I was very, very wrong and found myself shedding a tear when a bee landed on Player 196’s face in Red Light, Green light.
Though season two ended with more hope than the earlier addition, we still lost literally hundreds of players and a good chunk of named characters. Like the Hunger Games cannon announcements, let’s take a sombre look at who died in Squid Game season two.
1. Mr Kim
Before we even entered the games in episode three, we watched as Mr Kim was brutally murdered by The Recruiter’s lethal face card. Just kidding, it was a bullet.
2. The Recruiter
He was an absolute nutter but I was honestly devastated to see The Recruiter go. Not only did he pull off that bland suit, but his obvious insanity made for gripping TV.
3. Player 196
During Red Light, Green light, we lost Player 196 thanks to that stupid bee along with 91 other contestants who the snipers gunned down. I am now very much against saving the bees.
4. Young-mi
The next major death came in episode six when Young-mi was killed in the Mingles game as a traumatised Hyun-ju watched on.

5. Thanos
Also in episode six, everyone’s favourite controversial rapper Thanos bit the bullet when Myung-gi stabbed him in the neck using a fork. During the rebellion in the final episode, Player 380 Se-mi was also murdered by Nam-gyu in the same way.
6. Jung-bae
The last – and arguably most devastating death – came in the final episode when The Front Man was confronted by Gi-hun and his bestie Jung-bae. To teach the main character a lesson, The Front Man killed Jung-bae.
When you add up all the game deaths and those from the failed rebellion, only 95 players of the initial 456 are left alive by the end of season two.
Who is still alive for Squid Game season three?
Now on to a slightly cheerier portion of the article – who survived Squid Game season two and will most likely feature heavily in the upcoming third season?
First up we’ve got Player 456 himself, Gi-hun. After watching Jung-bae’s graphic death and vowing to take vengeance on The Front Man, Gi-Hun is more determined than ever to bring down Squid Game.
During the rebellion, many of the players stayed behind away from the gunfire including Yong-sik (Player 007), Geum-ja (Player 149), Jun-hee (Player 222), Myung-gi (Player 333), and Seon-nyeo (Player 044). Though he initially took part in the fight, Dae-ho (Player 388) went back to the dorm for more ammo and never came back out of fear. Hyun-ju (Player 120) went back to the dorm to find him, so they were both presumably safe.
In-ho, who had been posing as player 001 in the games, also survived despite being held at gunpoint by a very angry Gi-hun. Their fight will be central to season three according to the show’s creator. Detective Jun-ho and his team also survived the season.
The last person to note is Player 246, Kyung Seok, who you might know as the father of the little girl with blood cancer. He is fate was left pretty up in the air, and though the creators obviously want you to think he’s dead, I’m pretty sure he was saved by one of the guards. I am trying to be hopeful so I am including him in the list of survivors in the hope that a popular theory comes true.
