The shocking 243 reasons Eminem is suing Meta for the grand sum of $109 million
Meta issued a statement after his publishing company filed the lawsuit
Eminem’s publishing house is now suing Meta, the parent company of Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram, after accusing the tech company of copyright infringement over his substantial body of music.
According to the lawsuit viewed by PEOPLE, which was filed on May 30, Eminem’s Eight Mile Style publishing company is suing Meta because 243 songs were distributed on the platform without permission. The company, which was co-founded by Eminem’s production team, the Bass Brothers, controls his bank of music produced between 1995 and 2005. Such tracks include Without Me, The Real Slim Shady, Stan, Forgot About Dre, Lose Yourself, and clearly, hundreds more.
The publishing company accused Meta of the “unauthorised storage, reproduction and exploitation” of said music through the use of its “Music Libraries” feature, which is used by content creators in Original Audio and Reels Remix.
These features have allowed Eminem’s music to be used in millions of videos and streamed billions of times, meaning there is now “diminished value of the copyrights by Defendants’ theft of them, lost profits, and Defendants’ profits attributable to the infringement.”
Eminem’s Eight Mile Style is seeking $150,000 for each song, per platform, which means the lawsuit totals a staggering $109,350,000 in damages. It has also requested a jury trial, according to the report.
Meta responded to the news that Eminem is suing
Eminem’s lawsuit against Meta has reportedly been brewing for some time, with his publishing company earlier making complaints that sparked the removal of some songs, but not all. Meta allegedly tried to get licenses through Audiam, a digital royalty collection and payment engine, but Eight Mile Style never granted access.

Speaking to PEOPLE, a representative for Meta said: “Meta has licenses with thousands of partners around the world and an extensive global licensing program for music on its platforms. Meta had been negotiating in good faith with Eight Mile Style, but rather than continue those discussions, Eight Mile Style chose to sue.”
