Hayden Panettiere’s mum calls out daughter’s boyfriend in first statement since her death

Hayden Panettiere’s mum has spoken out since the death of her daughter, and has called out the actress’ on and off boyfriend. 36-year-old Hayden, known for acting roles in Nashville and Heroes, died after suffering a cardiac arrest at a home in Greenville, South Carolina on Sunday.  

Her mother, Lesley Vogel, has now released a statement, in which she blasted Brian Hickerson, who is said to have been with Hayden when she died. Vogel explained the family had been trying to distance themselves from Hickerson recently. 

“This person in her life that we have been trying to get rid of for quite some time was with her at her death and that was Brian Hickerson,” Vogel told NBC. “There is a lot of history in the past that Brian has enabled Hayden many times and this is why her father and I had been concerned for a long time about him.”

Vogel claimed that Hickerson had “enabled” Hayden in the past, so the family had been concerned about their relationship. She claimed she had known they were still together, despite the pair seeming to publicly distance themselves. A TMZ source claimed the couple were still together privately, even when publicly Panettiere had distanced herself from him, on the advice of her team.

In the full telephone interview, Lesley Vogel said: “I think Hayden was an amazingly talented person in so many departments and I think young people who grow up in the entertainment industry — it is a struggle and it’s a very challenging industry and it’s not unusual for them to sadly find the wrong path.”

She added: “I think it becomes very difficult to be true to yourself, and I think Hayden sadly lost her way, and I wish it were different. I wish she had stayed true to herself because she had many incredible attributes.”

She also mentioned Hayden’s younger brother Jansen, who died unexpectedly at age 28 in 2023. “I just feel that she’s with her brother and they’re at peace,” she added. 

Hayden’s death was announced in a statement on Sunday, shared via her rep. It read: “It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of our beloved Hayden. She was an incredible light and a force of nature who brought immeasurable love and joy to all who knew her — and to the millions who watched her onscreen.”
