One London uni rose above the rest, ranking second overall and first for its facilities
The results of the 2025 Whatuni Student Choice Awards are here. This year, 14 London unis made it into the rankings, with one rising above the rest.
Middlesex University took the crown for London University of the Year, ranking second nationally- a huge increase on its 21st place ranking in 2024. Second place in London is held by the University of East London, ranking ninth nationally.
The top national spot was taken by the University of Suffolk, with a 4.68 rating against Middlesex’s 4.4. In the category rankings, Middlesex grabbed the top spot for its facilities.
Middlesex also rose above all other London unis in the Student Support, International, Student Life and Students’ Union categories.
Reflecting on the win, Middlesex’s Pro Vice Chancellor for Education and Student Experience, Dr Ellen Buck, said: “These awards are all about the student voice. The fact that students nominated Middlesex University in six categories and we won so many awards is fantastic.
“Winning Gold as London University of the Year as well as Gold for best student life and student support in London is testament to our commitment to put students at the centre of everything we do.
“I want to thank all our students and assure them that at Middlesex we will continue to strive to maintain and improve our high standards on their student experience. I also want to thank our staff for their hard work and commitment to deliver an excellent university experience for our students with everything they need to prepare for their future.”

Imperial and UCL can brag about being in the world’s top 10 universities all they like, but neither are even featured in the Student Choice rankings, a feat that requires just 100 students to submit reviews. In fact, the only London Russell Group to be featured is QMUL, ranking third in London and 21st nationally.
