Finished MAFS Australia? These wild reality shows from down under should be your next watch

Don’t be a bogan, these are streaming rn

It’s super depressing to think about, but MAFS Australia is finally over, and while these shows are just like it, our evenings just won’t be the same without the chaos of those silly, silly bogans. But it doesn’t have to end that way; in fact, you can keep your reality TV taste buds satiated with these carefully selected shows of a similar vibe.

1. Byron Baes

As you can probably tell from the name, Byron Baes is a reality TV show based in the iconic location of Byron Bay in Australia. It features models, a former star of The Bachelor, and enough “TV personalities” to give Made in Chelsea a run for its money. Insufferable people and a loose grip on reality ALWAYS make for gripping TV.

“Artists, influencers and entrepreneurs in Byron Bay navigate life and try to make their dreams come true,” the official description reads.

The Guardian said Byron Baes is “contrived, trashy and awful” and “practically a public service”, which means it might just be the best reality TV show you watch this year.

2. Love on the Spectrum Australia

If you love the wholesome show that is Love on the Spectrum, then of course you’re going to enjoy it with soothing Australian accents! With two seasons and more set to follow, Love on the Spectrum Australia sees people on the autism spectrum exploring the unpredictable world of dating.

3. The Block

There was no way I wasn’t bringing up The Block when speaking about shows like MAFS Australia. It gets name-dropped constantly on the show, and that’s probably because it’s one of the more iconic Aussie renovation shows. With 19 seasons and counting, The Block sees two competing couples renovate a property before attempting to sell it at auction.

Though not available to watch through Netflix, there are 12 seasons of it just waiting for a binge on Prime Video.

4. Extreme Engagement

There are only so many original ideas, which is why there seems to be about 50 million shows of the same vibe, from Love Island to Too Hot to Handle; it’s getting a little bland. Enter Extreme Engagement, a one-season wonder on Netflix where Tim Noonan and PJ Madam travel the world to understand marriage. They go to extreme places, hence the name, such as Cameroon, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Mongolia, Nigeria, China, Brazil, and Yanaba before tying the knot.

Not only is it super entertaining, but the show itself is super educational as you learn the marriage practices of other cultures across the globe.

4. My Kitchen Rules

Switching it up a bit from dating shows, My Kitchen Rules is like MasterChef had a baby with classic Gordon Ramsay. It’s intense, fiery, and bound to make you hungry. Over the course of its 14 seasons, My Kitchen Rules has been helmed by a number of celebrity chefs at the top of their game.

The official description reads: “Contestants compete amongst one another as they prepare a three-course meal designed to impress their fellow contestants and esteemed judges and thereby eventually bring home the grand prize.”

If you’re looking for shows like MAFS Australia, but you’re bored of feeling VERY single, this one’s for you.

5. Below Deck Down Under

Below Deck should need no introduction, after all, the franchise now has Below Deck Mediterranean, Below Deck Sailing Yacht, Below Deck Adventure, and Below Deck Down Under. The show chronicles the everyday working lives of crew members who work and live aboard a 150-foot superyacht during a six-week charter season.

It’s the newest of the bunch with just three seasons, so unlike the other iterations, you’ll be caught up in no time and ready to hit the ground running with season four. All seasons are available on Prime Video.

6. The Real Housewives of Melbourne

Another Prime Video smash hit, The Real Housewives of Melbourne is a criminally underrated instalment in the Real Housewives franchise. You’ve got Gina Liano, a famous lawyer and TV host with the biggest hair, cosmetic surgery superfan Janet Roach, psychic Jackie Gillies, and Susie McLean, to name but a few of the iconic cast members.

It comes equipped with Bravo’s usual brand of unbridled chaos, and you’ll be way too invested in no time.
