One of the experts from Virgin Island just spoke out to defend the wild new Channel 4 show

She says all boundaries were clear between everyone involved at all times

The first few episodes of the latest Channel 4 show Virgin Island hadn’t even released before controversy hit the show – and would it honestly be a reality TV show on Channel 4 if that wasn’t the case? Of course not. It’s a show about virgins going to an island to try and not be virgins anymore with the usual batch of Channel 4 raunch, and you thought there wouldn’t be backlash? Now, one of the sex experts from Virgin Island has spoke out to defend the new show from the backlash it started getting before even a second of it aired.

The show is chaos, but to be fair to the channel and to the experts involved – it clearly has good intentions.

Wait, what the hell is Virgin Island!?

In case this has completely passed you by, Virgin Island is Channel 4’s bold new reality series that delves into the little discussed subject of adult virginity and intimacy. The show has a documentary style format and whisked 12 Brits – all of whom identify as virgins – on a transformative journey at a luxury retreat on a secluded Croatian island.

Guided by leading sexologists Celeste Hirschman and Dr. Danielle Harel, alongside a team of intimacy experts, the participants engage in a range of therapeutic practices, including emotional intimacy coaching and sexological bodywork, to confront and overcome their fears and anxieties surrounding physical and emotional closeness.

The series aims to foster open conversations about sexuality, self-esteem, and personal growth, offering viewers an authentic and empathetic exploration of the challenges and triumphs associated with intimacy in the modern age. And I mean this with all love, but it comes with lots of cringe inducing moments too – whilst also being very wholesome.

Dr Danielle Harel has this to say about any backlash

In one moment that was shown in the first episode, Dr Danielle has a session with delivery driver Zac who is one of the virgins in the programme. She is intimate with him and kisses his neck, to which she then comments on his arousal and says “I want to play a fantasy with you.”

He explains it made him feel “fuzzy”.

Dr Danielle spoke out as a Virgin Island expert to defend the show and its methodology, saying it has been clear that all participants and people working on the show communicated with each other about boundaries at all times, saying to LadBible “They felt like, ‘Okay, this is a therapeutic modality that’s going to help me grow’, and that’s how it was set up for them. So I don’t feel there was even one moment that people got confused around.”

Dr Danielle and her colleague Celeste Hirschman said they are doing the show because they’re determined to break the participants out of the “vicious cycle” of low self esteem.
