Right, here’s the context behind that viral Zendaya meme from her Disney Channel days

If you’ve spent any time online lately, you’ve probably encountered a very specific viral video of Zendaya: Shoulders raised, head tilted, tiny giggle.

It’s actually a 15-year-old clip from her Disney Channel daysthat has somehow found a whole new life as a meme template. The fact Zendaya was just 14 when the footage was filmed makes the whole thing even funnier.

The resurfaced clip shows a teenage Zendaya posing for photographers at the 2011 world premiere of Justin Bieber: Never Say Never. At the time, she was best known for starring as Rocky Blue in Disney Channel’s Shake It Up, alongside Bella Thorne.

During the purple carpet appearance, Zendaya is seen answering questions from the press before suddenly doing the now-iconic shoulder raise and adorable little laugh for the cameras. At the time, it was simply the sort of cutesy red carpet moment you’d expect from a 14-year-old Disney star.

Fast forward 15 years, and the clip has gone viral, with people using the exaggerated laugh-and-pose as a reaction to pretty much anything that deserves a smug little hehe.

This also isn’t the first time the internet has decided to excavate an old Zendaya photo and turn it into a meme.

Last year, pictures of her wearing a massive top hat at the 2014 Teen Vogue Young Hollywood party resurfaced and sparked the equally chaotic “Zendaya Hat Theory”, as people online jokingly tried to work out exactly what could possibly be hiding underneath it.

Since then, things have changed quite dramatically.

Zendaya has gone from Disney Channel star to one of Hollywood’s biggest names, starring in Euphoria, Dune, Dune: Part Two, Spider-Man and Challengers. Her films have also helped her become one of the most bankable stars around, with her movies surpassing $3 billion at the global box office.

And she still has Dune 3 on the way this December, so clearly teenage Zendaya’s career trajectory was doing just fine.
