Armed police raid on Edinburgh home marks escalation in ‘gang war’ investigations

The large police response comes after increasing gang violence across Edinburgh and Glasgow

On the afternoon of the 19th, a property on Firrhill Drive, was raided by armed police.

This is the second major police action in the last few days following the arrests of three individuals on the 17th.

This comes after an escalation of gang violence in the city through April and March.

The incident on the 19th took place in Firrhill Drive, at which officers closed off the area for a few hours whilst specialist, armed police entered and searched the property.

In relation to the search a police spokesperson said: “officers executed a search warrant at a property in Firrhill Drive, Edinburgh on Saturday, 19 April, 2025. Enquiries are ongoing”

The search is reportedly in relation to the increase in gang violence in the city and online which has taken place over recent weeks.

The search comes following the arrest of three individuals at a property in Crewe Road Gardens where two men, aged 61 and 41 and a 17-year-old women were arrested.

Weapons including a firearm were seized during the raid alongside mobile phones.

The two men: Christopher Livingstone Senior and Christopher Livingstone Junior, appeared at Dundee Sheriff Court on the 19th and have been charged with possessing a firearm without holding a certificate. They are due to appear in court again on the 26th.

This action comes following 5 arson attacks and two shooting which have taken place in Edinburgh over the past month.

The ongoing gang warfare is believed to be a feud between an Edinburgh based “Cocaine Kingpin” and an Unknown Gang leader believed to reside in Dubai.

Earlier this week, Scottish Conservative leader Russell Findlay urged the first minister to call a summit on the violence, rather than the forum John Swinney is hosting next week about tackling the far right.

Findlay said: “The latest explosion of violence in Glasgow and Edinburgh is directly linked to a drugs war that has been raging across Scotland since 2001, we’re almost a quarter-of-a-century into this drugs war.”

He said the “turf war” had already led to innocent civilians being caught up in the attacks on properties.

Speaking to Press Assocation, Swinney said: “I welcome the steps that have been taken by Police Scotland to address the criminality that has been taking place.

“As I see it, the police are doing an excellent job in taking forward the circumstances that have got to be addressed.”
