Millie Bobby Brown is being dragged for starring in a travel ad promoting Dubai
‘Wow for someone who is supposed to be a rights advocate… the state of Dubai is not the way to go’
Millie Bobby Brown is facing backlash for promoting tourism in Dubai after filming an ad of herself and her husband exploring the city.
Sharing a short clip of the six minute video on Instagram yesterday, many viewers were more than disappointed in Millie’s choice to partner with the Dubai Tourism Board, citing her previous work on gender equality.
The campaign was described as “out of touch for so many reasons” by one viewer, whilst others questioned the actor’s actions due to the strict laws and policies in the UAE, especially for same sex relationships.
Captioning the behind the scenes footage on Instagram, she wrote: “Come behind the scenes with us — relive the laughter, the excitement, and the memories we’ll never forget. Hope you love it as much as we loved creating it.”
The video also used hashtags such as #FindYourStory #VisitDubai #Dubai and #DTBPartner.
As a UNICEF ambassador, it was just six weeks ago that Millie made a speech on gender equality, where she advocated for women’s rights, saying: “I cannot live in a world where girls aren’t given the same tools or grace as others.
“I will not live in a world, where girls aren’t treated equally or encouraged to live their lives to the fullest potential ― as teachers, doctors, lawyers, scientists.”

One viewer reminded the actress of this, writing: “Not even six weeks after you make a speech to the UN about women being treated unequally you made an advert for the UAE government.”
They added: “This is why no one gives a shit when actors speak on politics.”
Describing the campaign as a “special experience”, the full ad on YouTube follows Millie and her husband, Jake Bongiovi, as they explore the city of Dubai.
The short movie plot sees them discover a magical movie script that transports them into a whirlwind adventure across the city, where they discover the alleyways of Al Seef, the Museum of the Future and the Burj Khalifa. They also film in the Al Qudra desert dunes, encouraging viewers to visit Dubai by selling the city’s endless possibilities.
However, Millie Bobby Brown was reminded by commenters that Dubai isn’t as glamorous as the clip advertises, with one commenter questioning why she would promote a place where they themselves would be prosecuted for their sexual preferences.
They wrote: “Why would you [do an] ad for a place that if I go there I can be in jail or even attacked and [die], just why love? [It] does not make sense.”
Others called out the actor for partnering with the Dubai Tourism Board due to her frequent work to improve gender equality, branding it as a “sell out”. One user commented “Wow for someone who is supposed to be a rights advocate… the state of Dubai is not the way to go” whilst another read “I don’t know making commercials for a state that literally treats human rights like a punching bag is not really the way to go.”
Others called for Millie to “educate herself” about the history of Dubai, claiming that the city is “still built by slaves.”
Whilst some comments were positive, Millie received an onslaught of negative feedback about the ad. One user even claimed that comments on the post may have been filtered, writing: “Girl I love you but there’s no way you aren’t deleting/filtering comments.”
Millie Bobby Brown was approached for comment.
