All the creepy Google searches found on Long Island killer suspect Rex Heuermann’s computer
He made 200 searches related to active serial killers
In Gone Girls on Netflix, the documentary briefly mentioned some Google searches found on a computer belonging to Rex Heuermann. He has been charged with murder, and his trial is upcoming.
The murders, known as the Gilgo Beach serial killings, were a series of murders that took place from 1993 to 2011. Many of the victims were found as police searched during the disappearance of Shannan Gilbert. The victims, of which there were nearly a dozen, were sex workers, all in their 20s.
Gone Girls: The Long Island Serial Killer gives a detailed account of how law enforcement finally zeroed in on Rex Heuermann. A search of his home was key in finding evidence that would hopefully bring justice in the previously unsolved case. Police found weapons, and a bunch of creepy Google searches, related to the case.

It took the police over three decades to arrest Rex Heuermann. He was arrested in 2023, following advances in DNA technology. Later in 2023, Rex Heuermann was charged with the murders of Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman and Amber Costello. Since then, he’s been charged with a further four murders.
Evidence found in his home was key to his arrest. Heuermann lived in his childhood home with his wife and two adult children. Police seized his computer. It had been wiped, but investigators were able to uncover evidence still.
