New Sheffield SU Officers announced for 2025/26
Students voted on six full time roles
The new Sheffield SU Officers for the 2025/26 academic year have been announced following the conclusion of these week’s elections.
The results were announced tonight at an SU Foundry event hosted by Forge TV – the university’s student television platform.
Overall, 5728 votes were cast – a turnout of 19%.
After leading a successful re-election bid, Daisy Watson was named SU President for the second year in a row with 1564 votes.
Daisy told Forge TV it had been “one of the best years” of her life and that she was “really excited” to do it again.
“I love Sheffield as an entity and as a city – it became home to me probably the minute I stepped of the train station coming here.
“It was a ticket to me to be able to forge a life, and a person, and a home that maybe previously I hadn’t had the chance to.
“So the opportunity to give back is probably above all the most important thing.”
Speaking to The Sheffield Tab earlier in the week, she explained her next term will focus on student experience and accessibility, the cost of living, and contributing to wider Sheffield, as well as asking questions of the higher education system.
“It is not being funded enough. It is on the edge of collapse. We are seeing huge cuts across the board in the Students’ Union and University.
“We need to make those changes on the ground. We need to work to make sure that [students] aren’t impacted, but equally we need to look to the government and go: this is not ok anymore and you will lose a really, really effective higher education system if you don’t start doing the work.”

Also joining the full time team are former part-time officers Kiara Delgado Derteano (as International and Welfare Officer) and Laura Edwards (as Liberation and Activities Officer).
Meanwhile, Anna James is the new Sustainability and Development Officer, Sam Omondi is the new Education Officer, and Nina Thyr will be the elected Student Trustee.
University of Sheffield Women’s Rugby captain Amelia Desouza claimed victory in the race for Wellbeing and Sports Officer.
Amelia will work on student health initiatives and lead the black and gold team into Varsity 2026.
Outside of the officer elections, two referendums also took place this week.
The first – asking if the SU should support university staff taking strike action – received an overwhelming vote in favour. 2217 people voted yes, 455 people voted no.
Sheffield UCU is currently balloting staff on potential strike action.
The second referendum – asking if the SU should express no confidence in the University Executive Board – also received an sizeable vote in favour. 2230 people voted yes, 227 people voted no.
A Sheffield UCU vote expressing “no confidence” in the board passed in November last year.
