
University of Nottingham releases statement after student dies in on-campus e-bike crash
A spokesperson has confirmed she was a student at the university
The University of Nottingham has released a statement after a student died following an on-campus e-bike crash.
A spokesperson also confirmed the 18-year-old woman was studying at the university prior to her death.
The unnamed student died after being involved in a collision on University Park campus in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
In the statement, the spokesperson said: “It is with great sadness that we confirm the death of a University of Nottingham student on University Park campus in the early hours of Tuesday morning in a road traffic incident.
“This is a deeply upsetting time, and all of our thoughts are with friends, family, and loved ones. We will continue to provide support to our community as we process the weight of this loss.”
The road traffic incident involved two e-bikes, in which the student sustained “serious injuries”, ultimately leading to her death despite the best efforts of medical teams.
There was a large police presence on the university’s campus yesterday, with cordons on East Drive in both directions. The road is now open again.
The 18-year-old victim’s identity is unknown, but Nottinghamshire Police has confirmed the family have been informed of her passing.
In a statement, Detective Sergeant Paul Clark, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This is a tragic incident that I know will come as a shock to all who knew and loved the victim.
“Officers will remain at the scene for much of the day as we work to understand the sequence of events that led to this young woman’s tragic and untimely death.
“As that work continues our thoughts are with her family at this very difficult time.”

The police continue to ask for anyone with additional information to call 101 quoting incident 55 of February 25.
