They also revealed whether they’ve forgiven Brian

A new Netflix documentary focusing on the tragic murder of Gabby Petito at the hands of Brian Laundrie was released this week, and Gabby’s parents have released a new statement in relation to the series.

Nichole Schmidt and Joe Petito have shared a heartbreaking statement due to the release of the documentary, as well as admitting whether they’ve forgiven Brian for what he did.

Speaking to NewsNation, Nichole stated: “I have forgiven Brian, and I know that is what Gabby would have wanted, and I’m moving forward so I can move on.

“That is my personal experience. I don’t think everyone has to forgive. They can when they are ready if they are ever ready. But for me personally, I needed to forgive to let that anchor go.”

Nichole revealed that Brian’s parents didn’t say anything when the police questioned them after Brian’s remains were found, and confessed she and Joe will “never know why” they remained silent.

She explained: “I don’t think we will ever know why. The two people who will only know why and how are the two people who were there.

“I think we have the answers we needed. We know that things were known. I don’t want to go too deep. I don’t like to about about them or say their names.”

Joe Petito also mentioned that Brian’s parents still haven’t apologised for what happened to Gabby, adding: “We are never going to get that.”

Nichole also had a specific plea to viewers of the Netflix documentary, asking: “When you watch the documentary, remember that this is a real person, this is a real family, it’s a real story and it’s real life.”

“It’s not just true crime. This can happen to anyone. We never in a million years thought this would happen to our family. That’s why we’re trying to help people, so we can prevent this from happening to them.”
