Omg! James Marsters mysteriously addresses if he’s going to return as Spike in Buffy reboot
‘It’s not a good thing for me to talk about’
Since the news that Buffy the Vampire Slayer is indeed in early stages of a reboot sequel series, being developed at Hulu with Sarah Michelle Gellar returning in both a producing role and as Buffy in a recurring position – the tongues have well and truly been wagging theorising on which other members of the beloved cast would be coming back. Of course, a lot of conversation here has been about the major vampire characters, Buffy’s lovers Angel and Spike. They are clearly characters everyone wants back, but the fact they’re meant to be immortal ageless undead is a bit of an issue when David Boreanaz and James Marsters are 55 and 62 respectively. David Boreanaz commented on SMG’s announcement post of the Buffy reboot, and now James Marsters has said for the first time if he’s going to be back for it as Spike or not.
And to be honest, he’s been so vague. But there’s a lot to unpack with it.

In a video on Instagram, James Marsters said: “So, first of all, I think I’m just going to get the elephant in the room out of the way, which is that it’s not a good thing for me to talk about the Buffy reboot. I’m sorry if you were coming here hoping for some news, but in the interest of having the project be the best it can be, it’s best if I keep my mouth shut right now so l’m going to do that. Because I think I’m like everybody, I’m very excited that we’re going to learn more about the journey of Buffy Summers and how she saves the world, because I think the world needs her. So I’m going to do my part by doing nothing right now.”
So is James Marsters back as Spike in the Buffy reboot? Whilst it sounds like he’s not in it on the first read, it’s interesting to note that he seems like he isn’t allowed to say much on it. Could that mean he is involved and is skirting around the subject? In contrast, Juliet Landau – who played Drusilla in Buffy – has openly said in interviews she’d love to be involved. Surely if James wasn’t he could air a similar sentiment?
MUCH TO THINK ABOUT.
