A chef who owned stash of bestiality videos has been sentenced for raping and punching a London student.
Dalston chef, Kodah McCarthy, 30, assaulted the woman in May 2023. He was then also found in possession of extreme pornography and had a subscription to a zoophilia website.
In a statement the victim told the court: “I did not know the man that raped me before the trial, but now I know his name and who he is. Having the jury find him guilty and him looking at a jail sentence makes me feel safer.
“Some nights, I still do not get any sleep. When I do sleep, I often have nightmares of men hunting me and me trying to run away from them. I wake up with palpitations and hot sweats. This has all happened since the rape, and I want you to know, McCarthy, the effect your actions have had on me.
“You can’t do this to people. I’m not a sex object. I’m a human being. I hope you do not do this to anyone ever again. If you still do not realise what you did was wrong, I hope you stay away from women.”
Despite the attack she managed to complete her course at a top London university, but had to take unpaid leave from work to recover from her injuries and contemplated suicide, according to MyLondon
Prosecutor Simon Shannon told Inner London Crown Court that the victim was “heavily intoxicated” previously on the night of May 28th 2023, before going home and returning back out to a pub on Tower Bridge Road.
McCarthy claimed he had “two pints of pale ale and a cider” before asking a group, which included the victim, for a lighter.

McCarthy and the student were shown by CCTV to have entered his flat at 1:30am with the victim leaving just over two hours later after McCarthy punched her in the face “without warning”. This then gave her “a burst of energy” to leave the flat, according to Judge Vanessa Baraitser.
The court heard how before McCarthy punched the victim, he started kissing her, with her telling him that she did not want that.
The victim was helped home by two men described by the prosecutor as “good samaritans” and told her flatmate that she thought she had been raped.
Defending, Curtis Myrie explained his client’s only mitigation was that he was of previousl good character, and was relatively young. However, he noted: “The reality is he’s going to be spending a long time in prison.”
McCarthy attended a £20,000 a year boarding school in Reigate, Surrey, before training at Westminster Kingsway College and working at Michelin star and other notable restaurants such as Jones & Son, which was recently featured in 2021 film Boiling Point, starring Stephen Graham.
Judge Baraitser described McCarthy as a “high risk of harm to the public, particularly sexual harm towards women” and added that “you took [the victim] back to your address. You raped her, punching her face as you did so. The circumstances of this case are genuinely concerning.”
She sentenced him to seven years and six months for the rape and assault.
After the conviction a member of McCarthy’s family lodged an appeal and said: “It’s not contested she was raped and punched, but it’s a question of identity”.
