If you love The Night Agent, these Netflix shows have the same vibe and even more action
I’ve basically just sorted your Netflix queue – thank me later
Sure it’s got standout acting, brutal fight scenes, and a tense political atmosphere not dissimilar to our own, but Netflix boasts loads more shows you might like if you enjoyed The Night Agent.
Gabriel Basso’s low-level FBI agent Peter Sutherland returned to Netflix screens last week with the release of The Night Agent season two. After successfully uncovering a Russian mole threat in season one, Peter and Rose set out to stop a chemical catastrophe in Midtown Manhattan amidst the looming threat of soon-to-be President Hagan.
Though season three has already been greenlit, you’ve got at least a few years to wait until The Night Agent returns to Netflix. In the meantime, binge these equally action-packed TV shows.
1. Black Doves
Keira Knightley? Check. Central queer characters? Check. Dark comedy? Also check – what’s not to love about Netflix’s Black Doves? The thriller came out late last year to critical acclaim, earning a rare 94 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes and calls for a season two, three, and so on.
When a former lover is killed by criminals, Helen – a member of the Black Doves spies-for-hire organisation – finds herself protected by an old friend called Sam, played by Ben Whishaw. Sarah Lancashire also stars in case you need another reason to binge.
2. The Recruit
Though admittedly not as popular as The Night Agent, Netflix’s The Recruit follows a rookie CIA agent Owen Hendricks (Noah Centineo) who becomes embroiled in international politics when a former asset threatens to reveal her connection to the intelligence agency.
Most Read
Despite having a fairly mid Rotten Tomatoes score of 68 per cent, the show is vastly more popular with viewers with an audience score of 84 per cent. Season two is set for release this month, so there’s never been a better time to get caught up.
3. Treason
If Charlie Cox proved one thing in his stint as Daredevil in the Marvel Universe it’s that he knows how to do gritty well. Enter Treason, a Netflix show that sees Charlie’s character Adam Lawrence realise that his career at MI6 has been carefully engineered by a Russian spy. Well, now she wants something from him.
4. Designated Survivor
Last week Donald Trump himself broke the US’ Designated Survivor rule, and this show could serve as proof for why the rule is so important. When the entire US government is destroyed in a bombing, it’s up to the Designated Survivor to put the pieces back together. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Thomas Kirkman takes on the role, being sworn in as the next president amid continued threats, political intrigue, and a dash of espionage.
5. The Diplomat
Despite being less action-packed, The Diplomat manages to keep you on the edge of your seat in a show about Kate Wyler, the new United States ambassador to the United Kingdom. She deals with assassination attempts, international incidents, and her abysmal marriage to fellow diplomat husband Hal Wyler.
6. Fubar
If you’re tired of long drawn-out looks to the camera and brooding CIA agents with more bullets than brains, then you could uplift your spirits with Arnold Schwarzenegger’s FUBAR, which stands for “fouled up beyond all recognition.”
Though its plot is something you’ve seen time and time again, with a married couple not realising one another are secret agents, FUBAR manages to make it slightly more original by changing the dynamic to that of a father and daughter.
All of these shows are now available on Netflix. For all the latest Netflix news, drops, quizzes and memes like The Holy Church of Netflix on Facebook.
