Black Doves creator confirms identity of mystery woman who appears in the final scene

Everyone has been confused

The creator of Black Doves has confirmed the identity of a mystery woman who seemed to pop up out of nowhere in the show’s final scene. It seems a lot of people were confused about who she is.

Joe Barton, who is behind the Netflix spy thriller, has said he’s been hit with confusion over a woman in the final episode. The last scene is on Christmas Day, and a woman is seen sitting in the home of Reed – head of the Black Doves.

As the show comes to an end and ties up all loose ends, it goes out on a high. We see all the main characters enjoying their festivities, as Fairytale of New York by The Pogues plays us out. Reed is in her swanky home, sipping a glass of bubbly and enjoying the view.

Then the camera pans, and shows a blonde woman sat on her sofa, also enjoying a glass of fizz. The camera focuses on her as she smiles at Reed, almost in a sinister way. It does add a confusing hint at something going on. Why is she smiling like that? Is something else happening here?

So who is the mystery woman in the Black Doves final scene?

Clearly a lot of people don’t recognise her, as Joe Barton has since clarified who she is. In an interview with GQ, he explained: “That’s Marie, she’s Helen and Wallace’s nanny. She pops up throughout the series, so it’s possible to miss.

“I mean, she looks like she could be Reed’s daughter, they’ve got a similar haircut. But no, she’s the nanny, so she’s been spying on them the whole time. Basically, everyone’s a spy.”

Marie had a short scene with Helen earlier in the show, so we can all be forgiven for not remembering. So no, she’s not a sinister hint at what’s to come in season two – which has already been confirmed, by the way! Or wait, maybe she is. We’ll have to wait and see.
