Pivotal Black Doves scene completely reshot as Ben Wishaw felt original was ‘wrong’

It turns out one of the most pivotal and dramatic scenes in the new Netflix series Black Doves could have turned out completely differently if Ben Wishaw hadn’t intervened and requested a complete reshoot.

The thriller show was only released this week but has already been renewed for a second season and has an incredible 97 per cent score on Rotten Tomatoes. Ben Wishaw plays a hitman called Sam who Helen, played by Keira Knightley, is trying to seek revenge against after he killed her lover Jason.

But things take a complicated turn for Sam when his ex boyfriend Michael returns to his life because there’s nothing more dramatic than a previous partner making a comeback.

However, the creator of Black Doves, Joe Burton, revealed to Metro they decided to change one key scene after Ben Wishaw decided the moment “didn’t feel quite right.”

He elaborated: “We had a discussion as the scene didn’t feel quite right to them. It was a scene where they were deciding whether or not they wanted to get back together, and it was about why you would do that and how you’d feel about your ex boyfriend being a hit man, and all that kind of stuff. We changed it and then we filmed it again.”

But despite the many frantic scenes included in the Netflix show, Joe explained the main themes of Black Doves aren’t just about “bloodshed and strife” but mainly focused on “friendship.”

He added: “Of all the different relationships that get covered on screen, I find that friendship is not as explored as others.
