Have the LA fires stopped? The latest update on which ones have been contained
The wildfires broke out almost a week ago now
Brush fires have devastated so many neighbourhoods across Los Angeles, and they sadly haven’t stopped yet as of Monday (January 13).
The first fire broke out last Tuesday (January 7) and a staggering 40,306 acres of land has burned to the ground.
More than 12,300 buildings have been destroyed and there have been 13 confirmed deaths, but which fires are still ongoing?
As revealed by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, there are three fires which are still burning.Â
All of the others, including the Kenneth, Archer, Sunset, Lidia, Woodley and Olivas fires, have now all been fully contained.

The Palisades Fire
The Palisades fire is still the most severe, only being 13% contained at the time of writing this. It has burned 23, 713 acres and the entire area is closed to the public, with a mandatory order to evacuate as there is still an “immediate threat to life”.
“Fire behavior was moderate today but there is still active fire within the fire perimeter,” the latest status update reveals. “Unburned islands are still present and can pose a threat to containment lines, however firefighters have been working around the clock with a continued focus on fire suppression, human safety and private and public property assessment and protection.”
The Eaton Fire
The Eaton fire is only 27% contained and has burned through 14,117 acres of land. This entire area is also lawfully closed to public access and under a mandatory evacuation order.

“Today, firefighters continued tactical patrols and responded to public calls for service while also constructing and improving containment lines,” the fire department said. “Increased containment Urban Search and Rescue efforts, infrastructure assessments, hazardous material response, and damage assessment missions continue in the communities along the southern edge of the fire.”
The Hurst Fire
The third fire which is still burning is the Hurst fire, although that is now 89% contained after burning through 799 acres. This area is not under a mandatory evacuation.
“Firefighting efforts continue to concentrate on building and improving containment lines with a focus on public safety and structure protection. Residents returning home are advised to use extreme caution,” the latest update says.
With strong winds and dry weather forecast until Wednesday, much of Los Angeles is still under threat.
