This theory that Squid Game’s Sae-byeok is related to another character makes total sense
She was everyone’s favourite player in season one
While everyone eagerly waits for Squid Game season three, all kinds of theories are still circling about the characters.
People think the Front Man is the old man from season one’s son and the suspicious boat captain is a previous winner.
Another convincing theory is that Sae-byeok, the player who came third in season one, is related to No-eul, Guard 11 in season two.
Here are all the links between them that have got people totally sure their relationship will be unveiled in the final installment.
They are both from North Korea
Firstly, both of the characters are from the same place. In season one, we find out Sae-byeok was a North Korean defector who fled with her parents and younger brother, but her father died and mother got caught. No-eul is also a North Korean defector and former soldier who fled to South Korea after killing her superior officer but had to leave her newborn daughter behind.
They have the same surname
Another strange thing about them is they both have the same surname, Kang. Their full names are Kang Sae-byeok and Kang No-eul, because surnames come first. Kang is the sixth most common surname in South Korea, with over 1.1 million people having the name in 2015, but it still seems like a strange coincidence that they would have the same name.

Their names mean similar things
As well as the same surname, the two characters’ names also mean opposite things. In Korean, Sae-byeok means “sunrise” while No-eul means “sunset”. Surely the producers didn’t do that by accident? All these links between them are just too suspicious.
Wait, are they sisters?!

People are convinced that the pair are long-lost sisters. In season one, Sae-byeok spoke about her brother and didn’t mention any other siblings, but perhaps she never knew No-eul existed. We’ll have to wait until season three to find out the truth, which is coming to Netflix later this year.
