Squid Game Gi-hun actor debunks theory that he should recognise Front Man in season two
It all makes sense now!
Squid Game 2 brought us one of the biggest plot twists of all time: The Front Man entering the game as Player 001. If you couldn’t contain your shock, join the rest of us. Some eagle-eyed viewers noticed a plot hole with the Front Man’s involvement in the games that proved Gi-hun should have recognised the Front Man when he first appeared. However, the actor who plays Gi-hun, Lee Jung-jae, has debunked this theory and revealed why Gi-hun wouldn’t have recognised the Front Man in season two of Squid Game.
Lee Jung-jae explained that Gi-hun’s mind was elsewhere
For all those who remember the events of the Squid Game season one finale, Gi-hun and the Front Man finally came face to face (kind of). After Sang-woo ended his life and Gi-hun became the winner of the games, the two met in the back of a car. The Front Man told Gi-hun all about why the games happen, but he failed to put on his mask that would have distorted his voice. Sure, Gi-hun was blindfolded and couldn’t see his face, but it meant that he would have heard his real voice. By this logic, Gi-hun should have instantly recognised the voice of Player 001 and matched it with the Front Man. Plot hole, right?
Wrong. Lee Jung-jae has set the record straight about this error, explaining that Gi-hun’s mind was elsewhere. He couldn’t register the Front Man’s voice when he first heard it because he was too busy “blaming himself for everything that happened.”

In fact, he believes Gi-hun has so much going on that he still doesn’t know the identity of the Front Man at the end of season two. “I don’t think Gi-hun knows the truth yet,” he explained.
I guess all will be revealed in season three, which creator Hwang Dong-hyuk called the “second chapter of Gi-hun and Front Man’s showdown.” Next summer can’t come soon enough!
