Why does Detective Jun-ho lie about not knowing the Front Man’s identity in Squid Game?
He could have saved everyone
If you’ve finally finished Squid Game 2, you’ve probably been left with way more questions than answers. One of the biggest mysteries of Squid Game that could have changed the entire course of the story was why Detective Jun-ho decided to hide the truth that his brother was the Front Man running the operation.
The story behind Jun-ho and In-ho, the Front Man, runs all the way back to season one. Jun-ho firstly believes his missing brother has entered the games as a player, but little does he actually know his brother is the man behind it. After infiltrating the island, he comes face to face with In-ho who just flat-out shoots him.
In Squid Game 2, Jun-ho is fully aware of his brother being the Front Man but decides to keep the secret to himself. If he’d shared what he knew with Gi-hun, the show could have been over before the first game even started.
So why does Jun-ho lie about his brother being the Front Man?
There are a few reasons why Jun-ho might have kept this information to himself. Firstly, it’s clear he has a lot of unfinished business with In-ho, and he wants to see him alive. If he’d revealed what he knew to Gi-hun, who is still so vengeful about the games, he would have killed In-ho on sight. By keeping Gi-hun oblivious he’ll hopefully get the chance to face his brother once again.
Secondly, revealing that the Front Man was his brother might have made Gi-hun and the crew suspicious of Jun-ho himself. Not that Gi-hun has been skeptical of anything so far. Come on!!

Even though In-ho betrayed him, they’re still brothers and it’s unlikely Jun-ho could pull the trigger on him if needed.
Thirdly, Jun-ho was probably looking out for everyone’s safety. He is a police officer! To remain neutral was probably safest for everyone involved, including Gi-hun whose life could have been in danger had he known the identity of the Front Man. It’s all so complicated!
