The sinister reason the Front Man kept Jung-bae alive in that Squid Game challenge
It’s all about revenge
After watching Squid Game season two, everyone is now analysing every second while they wait for season three.
There are all kinds of details you probably missed on your first watch, from the hidden clues the boat captain was a traitor to the secret meanings behind the player numbers.
Another thing people have picked up on is the super dark reason the Front Man decided to keep Jung-bae alive.
During the Mingle challenge, Player 001 went into a room with Jung-Bae after the number “two” was called.
When they got there, they realised there was already another person in the room, so the Front Man strangled him to death.
If they had the incorrect number in the room, the red guards would come over and shoot the people inside, but hang on a minute. Player 001 can’t die?!
The guards could have easily come and shot Jung-Bae and the other man in the room and left the Front Man to walk out as if nothing happened.
So, why did he strangle the man and stop Jung-Bae from dying? Well, it was all a sinister plot to get revenge on Gi-hun.
In the final episode, after the Players all start rebelling against the games, the Front Man kills Jung-Bae right in front of Gi-Hun by shooting him.
Watching his best friend die right in front of him is the biggest form of revenge, showing that he will never win and should stop trying to take him down.

“Front Man takes this opportunity to prove to Gi-hun that his ‘little hero games’ were ultimately empty. He shoots Jung-bae, killing him,” Netflix explained in Tudum.
“This way, he can finally teach Gi-hun that there really is no hope in the world. Knowing that Gi-hun will have to live with that lesson is far more appealing to Front Man than simply killing Gi-hun. Death is too easy a way out.”
The actor who plays Gi-hun, Lee Jung-jae revealed that Jung-Bae’s death will change the “formerly hopeful protagonist” forever.
“How much pain can someone endure in order to achieve their goal? Would that determination he had in the beginning still be intact? Would he still have that feeling inside of him? Because now his best friend is dead,” he said.
Some people are convinced that after losing all his humanity and morality, Gi-hun will become the next Front Man.
“Is he still going to believe that he will be able to persuade others and leave together or put an end to the game?” the director Hwang Dong-hyuk said about season three.
“Or will he give in and become a completely different person? Someone just like the Front Man, who thinks, ‘What can I change?'”
