Birmingham students can now use digital IDs on the bus

The free Yoti app lets West Midlands students use digital ID for cheaper bus tickets

Students using the bus in the West Midlands and Coventry can now leave their physical IDs at home thanks to a new scheme by National Express West Midlands.

Yoti has created an app with the National Express West Midlands for convenient and easy use. On the app personalised IDs will be available, providing information including the student’s university email and a photo for bus drivers to verify.

This ID will give students direct access to cheaper bus fares and can be used on National Express buses that stay within the West Midlands and Coventry.

Adam Rideout, from National Express West Midlands expressed his support of the scheme, saying: “The new Student ID feature from Yoti will make it even easier for customers to provide proof of student status when travelling on our services and benefit from cheaper travel.”

Yoti CEO, Robin Tombs, also commented on the rollout for the BBC: “We’re delighted National Express West Midlands is the first to accept Student IDs, helping students prove their status and access discounted travel tickets more easily.”

Students can download either the Yoti, Post Office EasyID or Lloyds Bank Smart ID free apps to create their digital ID.
