Love Island winner Liam Reardon left homeless by huge sinkhole on driveway in South Wales

‘Reality is, we’re out of our home, we don’t have a home now to live in’

Love Island winner, Liam Reardon, has spoken out about being left homeless after the opening up of a massive sinkhole on his driveway in Merthyr Tydfil.

The star who won the 2021 season the ITV reality show, spoke out about the sinkhole ordeal on his podcast that he co-hosts with girlfriend and fellow Love Island star, Millie Court.

The property is currently rented by Liam and his family after recently selling their family home around two months ago.

Whilst work is currently taking place to stabilise the sinkhole in Nant Morlais, in the Pant area of the town, it is not clear when residents will be able to return to their houses.

On the 1st December, around 30 homes were evacuated in Merthyr Tydfil, with residents left to stay with relatives or move into hotels.

Liam spoke on the couple’s podcast, saying: “It’s gone viral on TikTok and everyone’s commenting, speculating what they think it is.

“Some people think it’s aliens. I’m reading it and it’s just weird because it’s outside my front door.”

On the Saturday morning before the hole appeared, Liam recalled driving over the area which is formed: “We got a call at two o’clock in the afternoon saying we had a small sinkhole at the end of our drive. From there, it progressively got worse and worse throughout the evening.

“We were in the house Sunday morning, having breakfast. The neighbours were out on the street, we had highway maintenance and engineers and stuff, all in our street.

“Then all of a sudden, our front gates and our front wall just disappeared into the hole. Our driveway started eating away.

He then said a number of residents took to the street shouting: “Get out of the house,” whist he was having a cup of tea and his breakfast.

Liam continued by saying: “We could hear the thumping of the ground just disappearing. It was like we were in a movie.”

This called for an instant evacuation and the star and his family have not been able to return since.

Liam highlighted his frustration at the inconvenience of the situation. He said: “It’s the run-up to Christmas, we are virtually homeless.

“Our dogs Dolly and Otis, they don’t know what’s happening, they don’t know if they’re coming or going.

“We’ve been there a couple of months and they’ve kind of got used to that place and now we’ve had to move out and we’re in this random AirBnB and the dogs don’t know where they are again.

“Reality is, we’re out of our home, we don’t have a home now to live in.”
