Boys in balaclavas detained after breaking into Cardiff University student accommodation

Footage shows the group running and then being led away by police at Talybont Gate

A group of boys in balaclavas were detained after breaking into Cardiff University student accommodation in Gabalfa.

On Thursday, 21st November, at around 7:50pm, South Wales Police were notified of an incident at Talybont Halls of Residence.

South Wales Police officers attended the scene following reports of a burglary at the accommodation. This is when a group of “15-year-old boys were found on the premises.”

However, nothing had been stolen during the incident and the individual who reported the issue chose against issuing a complaint.

After detaining the boys, officers took them home to their parents who were then spoken to by police about the incident.

Officers were deployed after few residents had noticed some people in their flats, including Luca, who later made a TikTok video of the boys being detained.

In the video, a police van can be seen and people running. Then, the image changes to people being escorted away from the building by officers.

Luca told The Cardiff Tab that it only took around 10 minutes for the officers to arrive, and within approximately three minutes, they’d detained the first boy. He added that they did not press charges.

The 15-year-old-boys were found on the premises. Nothing had been stolen and the reporting person did not wish to pursue a complaint. The boys were taken home to their parents who were spoken to by officers about the incident.”
